Have you ever wondered how you can capture family memories and save them for future generations? Want to write down your own stories, but not sure where to start? It’s not as hard as you think! The Mercer Library will host a free program on “Creating a Family Documentary” on Tuesday, April 24th at 10:00am at the Mercer Library.

Genealogist Linda Valentine has been encouraging people to write down their thoughts and preserve them in a “family documentary” book for years. By working with her own family and others, she has developed an informal list of questions designed to get you thinking about the past and share thoughts that give people true insight into you and your personality.

Writing down the information is just the first step, though. Gathering those stories and photos in a collectible book is one way to encourage your family to keep them for the future. Valentine will share tips and tricks for getting people to share their stories and using them to create a special keepsake sure to last. She’ll bring examples of her own family books to help you think about the many ways, from simple to elaborate, that you can help preserve these special memories.

All are welcome and the program is free. For more information, call the library at (715)476-2366.
