The Ironwood Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team is partnering with the Ironwood Carnegie Library and Gogebic Community College to host the Diversity Matters Reading Group!
The purpose is to encourage conversation, reflections and understanding of differences within the community through shared reading about diversity.
Book Selections and Dates:
- 6pm Thursday, January 21 – Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward (fiction)
- 6pm Thursday, February 25 – Ring, Shout, Wheel About: The Racial Politics of Music and Dance in North American Slavery by Katrina Dyonne Thompson (non-fiction)
- 6pm Thursday, March 25 – Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead (fiction)
- 6pm Thursday, April 22 – At the Dark End of the Street: Black Women, Rape, and Resistance – A New History of the Civil Rights Movement from Rosa Parks to the Rise of Black Power by Danielle L. McGuire (non-fiction)
The Diversity Matters Reading Group will meet via Zoom video conferencing. Links will be sent out prior to each date. Meeting methods (virtual or in-person) for future book groups will be determined based on state/local executive orders and healthy/safety precautions.
