The Heritage Chapter of the North Country Trail is hosting a May work weekend on Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 19th.

The Heritage Chapter was formed to develop, maintain and promote the use of the North Country National Scenic Trail from Copper Falls State Park near Mellen to the Wisconsin-Michigan border.

The main focus of the June work weekend will be trail maintenance and mowing. Folks are invited to join any or all of this 3-day event. The organizer and contact for this event is Todd McMahon. So, if you have any questions or comments please contact Todd directly at isawtman@gmail.com.

Where To Stay: The Chapter has free camping available Friday and Saturday in Copper Falls State Park at Overflow Site 2 (Hwy 169, just north of Mellen). Remember you will need a sticker pass on your vehicle if camping in the state park overnight. If you don’t feel like camping, you can rent the Cozy Valley Lodge, a vacation rental home on the Thewis Family Farm (hosts of a section of the NCT). It is the perfect place for a trail crew or hikers to hang out. And you are only a few hundred yards from the Trailhead on Hwy 169. See Cozy Valley Lodge on Facebook or call Kendra Thewis at 414-758-8823 for availability and reservations.

Where And When To Meet: Please meet at the entrance station at Copper Falls State Park on Hwy 169 just east of Mellen at 8am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings for tools, directions and carpooling.

What To Bring: Please bring your own water (2 liters), trail lunch, snacks and bug repellent.

Meals: The Heritage Chapter provides dinner after work on Saturday.

Thank you volunteers for all you do to support the North Country National Scenic Trail! Without volunteers there would not be a trail.
