Spring is coming and Extension Iron County is getting you ready to update your landscaping with native plants.

They are offering a four-part series to take your yard to the next level.  All classes are offered FREE of CHARGE!

Two sessions will be offered at the Mercer Public Library and two will be held at the Hurley Public Library.

Session 1 – March 31, 2023 – Introduction to Landscaping with Native Plants – Mercer Library, 10:00 – 10:30 am

This presentation will cover the benefits of using native plants in your garden, including their ability to provide habitat for pollinators and other wildlife, their low maintenance requirements, and their ability to withstand local weather conditions. Attendees will also learn about the design principles behind successful native plant gardens, including how to choose plants that are well-suited to their garden’s location, how to group plants based on their light and water requirements, and how to incorporate different textures, colors, and heights into their garden designs.

Session 2 – April 7, 2023 – Landscaping in Shaded Environments – Hurley Library, 10:00 – 10:30 am

This presentation will provide advice on how to create beautiful and sustainable gardens in shaded areas, including under trees or next to buildings. Attendees will learn about a variety of native plant species that thrive in low light conditions, including ferns, wildflowers, and shrubs. The presentation will also cover tips for improving soil quality in shaded areas, managing moisture levels, and selecting the right plants for specific shaded environments.
