Jean Raschke has volunteered to lead a paddle to Dead Pike Lake off of Powell Road. Here is the nearby, easy, no rapids paddle some of you have been waiting for. The shore is 3.84 miles, so you should be able to make it around in less than 2 hours. Weather forecast is promising. I have never been on this lake and am sorry to miss it. The lake’s deepest hole is 80 feet! For a long time I thought it drained through the stepping stone lakes to Little Star and only recently looked closely enough to see that in fact it drains northwest to the Bear River some distance away. Paddlers will meet at the boat landing on Powell Road at 8:30 am. Directions to the landing from Mercer are to take Hwy 51 south to Powell Road and turn right. Wind around on Powell for at least 3 miles and watch for the boat landing on your right. The carpool from Mercer will meet at 8:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church.
