Thousand Island Lake is part of the Cisco Chain imbedded in the Ottawa National Forest in the UP. We will put in at the Thousand Island Lake Landing and head north into Africa and Little Africa and maybe Clearwater Lakes if we can get through. This will be all flat-water paddling, and you should pack a lunch. We will meet at the landing at 9:00 am. Although this isn’t a particularly long paddle, I’d like to allow us enough time to explore the little lakes, as we aren’t likely to come back this way for several years. I understand there is a good place to picnic on an island in Little Africa. We will do our exploring, have lunch and then head for home.

Directions to the Thousand Island Lake Landing from Mercer: Allow 1.25 hours. Take County J east to Cty W, left on W to Presque Isle, right on Cty B about 20 miles to Thousand Island Lake Road. Turn left on Thousand Island Lake Road (Cty Z?) and go about 3 miles to Roddis Road/Thousand Island and turn left. Go about another mile and turn right on Thousand Island Lake Road and it is about another mile to the boat landing on your left. The carpool from Mercer will meet at Carow Park at 7:30 am. Let me know if you are coming, please.
