We have a golden opportunity to paddle the Turtle River from Winchester to Cedar Lake. Normally only good for paddling in the early season, the Monday night social group saw all the piers on South Turtle at or below the water level. Even though last week someone damaged a beaver dam which allowed the water level to go below acceptable, all the rain has surely brought the flow back up to something we can travel. It isn’t far away and it isn’t big enough to be dangerous. It is a beautiful, remote river and should be a great paddle. There are a few small rapids in the river, but the risk is low. We will meet at the takeout on Cedar Lake at 8:30 am. It is only 6 miles from Mercer so I don’t think it is worth shifting all the boats an extra time and there is a large parking lot at Cedar. To reach the boat landing from Mercer, take County Road J east about 3.5 miles to Cedar Lake Circle. Turn left and follow Cedar Lake Circle about another 2 miles to the boat landing. Let me know if you are coming!
