Enjoy an afternoon with traditional Finnish wood carver Peter “Pekka” Olson, as he hews whimsical birds and trees from blocks of wood, and regales onlookers with tales from his treasure trove of life experiences. A carver since he could hold a puuka (knife), he’s been honing his skills ever since, and was a recipient of NMU’s Upper Peninsula Folklife Award in 2020. Pekka is also an exhibitor in Art in the Park, so be sure to visit his display before you leave. This performance infusion is open to the public and free. Located at Site 18 of the Miner’s Memorial Heritage Park.
