Test Your Dial Gauges!

As the weather cools down and garden harvests are wrapping up, Gogebic Community College, Michigan State University (MSU) Extension and the University of Wisconsin – Madison Extension have teamed up to remind everyone that low acid foods should be canned in a pressure canner.

Pressure canners that use a dial gauge should be tested at least once per year, according to the National Center for Home Preservation website.

On Friday, September 18 and Monday, September 21 from 3-6pm CDT, staff members from GCC, MSU and UW Extension offices will be available to test dial gauges in front of the Lindquist Student and Conference Center on the campus of Gogebic Community College in Ironwood.

Anyone interested in having their dial gauges tested should bring their lid to GCC during these times. Individuals can safely wait in their car while lining up along the front of the Lindquist Student and Conference Center building. Signs will be posted.

Please contact Glen Ackerman-Behr at 906-307-1234 with any questions regarding the testing.
