October 26, October 28, November 2, and November 4, 10:00 AM – Noon
Broaden your horizons and deepen your understanding of how U.S. taxpayer dollars support assistance programs around the world. With professional experience in over 60 countries via the U.S. State Department and other international agencies, Gary Theisen will introduce us to the rationale behind foreign assistance and the issues underlying global change and development. Examine the political and systemic causes of poverty, disease and corruption in the “developing world,” and discover why these matters are of concern to more economically-advanced countries like the United Sates. Explore misconceptions about international assistance programs, as well as progress made through them. Classes will involve presentations by the instructor, learning exercises and informal discussion — sure to be fascinating and thought-provoking.
