Building on his book, The Future City on the Inland Sea: A History of Imaginative Geographies of Lake Superior, Eric Olmanson’s presentation will focus on the early days of Hurley, Wisconsin set in the broader history of early reconnaissance and geological explorations, Euroamerican settlement, boosterism, and the rapid urban and industrial development that followed shipping and rail connections to the region that became the northern coastal region of Wisconsin.
