Local author P.K. Perry will visit the Mercer Public Library on Thursday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m. to share her new book, Melancholy Until the Mountain.

Melancholy Until the Mountain is a journey to self and a sampling of what the world beyond our backyards has to offer.  The two main characters, Mae the maple tree and Pecan the squirrel, suffer serious losses and become separated.  They get onto different roads, lose their way, and then struggle to reconnect.  Along the way they meet a variety of creatures from different countries and cultures as the author dabbles with their spoken languages.  Themes woven into this modern fable include humor, faith, love, freedom, courage, mental health, and the value and equality of all people.  The story also asks us to consider the current state of the environment.

P.K. Perry is, first and foremost, a designer of images, text, paper, and fabric.  This book is a collage of letters, words, pictures, cultures, languages, and ideas.  As the former AVP and manager of graphics for Greystone Servicing Corporation, Perry designed and illustrated a dozen books in the private sector.  She is the daughter of Phyllis Perry and the late Dr. James D. Perry, former president of Gogebic Community College.  This novel was written in memory of Dr. Perry and Rodney Koivisto, and is a tribute to the author’s family and friends who have touched her life in a positive way.
