Important aspects of the U.S. conservation movement began right here in Iron County in the 1800’s. Learn about the early resort era, litigation against big timber, establishment of fish hatcheries, and the work of the CCC and Indian Division programs.

Presenter Jim Bokern, a resident of Manitowish Waters, began teaching high school History in 1981. He co-developed the Digital Time Traveler Program at the North Lakeland Discovery Center, and is currently president of the Manitowish Waters Historical Society and continues active research in the region

Program hosted by the Iron County Land and Water Conservation Department and Iron County Lakes and Rivers Alliance, venue with food and drink options provided by Erv and Margie of The Pines Restaurant and Beer Garden in Mercer.
