All are welcome Ni-Miikanaake Chapter hike on Saturday, July 17 . The aim is to hike and lightly brush from the Hwy 519 trailhead to Black River Harbor, and finish up with a picnic.
There are 2 meeting point options –
1) Meet at the 519 trailhead at 10 am Central Time. Bring water, snacks, bug repellent. Forecast is for a slightly warmer day, highs possibly about 80 Distance is 6.5 miles. The hike will likely take 3-4 hours. Be prepared to climb around some ravines on this section.
2) For those who wish to carpool, meet at Black River Harbor at 9 am (Central). We’ll carpool over so that most people will be hiking back to their cars.
Directions to Black River Harbor parking lot & picnic area: take Black River Road to the very end.
Directions to Hwy 519 Trailhead: From the intersection of Hwy2 and M-28 in Wakefield, go east on M-28, just out of Wakefield, take Hwy 519 north. The trailhead is on the left, marked by a brown and yellow Forest Service sign. It’s 13.7 miles from US-2/M-28 to the trailhead.
Coming from the south, the trailhead is on the left side, and is on a downslope.
