The Iron County Historical Museum will be hosting a presentation entitled “Polish Immigration to the Gogebic Range” presented by Jay M. Orbik. Professor on Wednesday, July 27th at 6:30pm in the museum’s courtroom. The presentation is free and open to the public (a goodwill donation will be appreciated). Light refreshments will be served.
Orbik holds an Ed.D. in Educational Technology, Research, and Assessment from Northern Illinois University, where he retired as the Director of Media Services. For over 30 years, he has been working on his family’s genealogy and has traced all of his family lines back to the oldest records available originating in the village of Tajno and the nearby town of Augustów as far back as 1662. Dr. Orbik’s presentation will focus on immigrants from the Augustów area that settled in the Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin. He was able to find a number of families on the Range that are linked to the Augustów region, including the Gulan, Romanowski, Sobolewski, Organist, Bartosewicz, Berno, and Grajewski families.
