The Iron County Historical Museum is proud to present “Two Prohibition Stories Connecting Hurley and Manitowish Waters” given by Kay Krans.
Kay Krans is a retired high school history teacher and adjunct lecturer in the College of Education at Mississippi State University. Presently, Kay is a board member of the Manitowish Waters Historical Society.
Kay will tell two stories that connect Manitowish Waters and Hurley. The first is the 1931 story of the kidnapping of St. Paul, Minnesota’s King of the Bootleggers, Leon Gleckman. Gleckman was often referred to as the “Al Capone” of St. Paul. The second part of the presentation will feature stories about the Morichetti family.
The presentation will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at 6:00 PM in the museum’s courtroom at 303 Iron Street in Hurley. Light refreshments will be served. The presentation is free, but donations will be accepted.
