The Depot Dash (for kids 10 and under) kicks off the festival on Friday afternoon, while packet pick-up and the expo get underway at the Memorial Building.
On Saturday the SISU 31K and Heikki Lunta 15K ski races begin at ABR Ski Trails and end at the “Finnish Line” in downtown Ironwood. The scenic race course goes by bluffs, the Montreal River, former mining areas and Hiawatha, with world’s tallest Native American statue. Not into racing? The Hauska Hiihto 5K Fun Ski is timed but there are no awards. All participants gather back at the Memorial Building for mojakka (Finnish stew) and pasties, entertainment, and the awards ceremony.
Refuel at one of our local restaurants. Enjoy a frosty microbrew at Cold Iron Brewing. Celebrate your achievement at the SISU After party at the Historic Ironwood Theatre, featuring the UP vibes of Conge Se Menne – free entry, cash bar.
Stick around on Sunday for the Fat Bike Trails Demo at Powderhorn (Snow Summit Rd). Or enjoy a leisurely recovery ski back at ABR or nearby Wolverine Ski Trails.
