What is mixed media? A little bit of everything may be incorporated into our art: drawing, painting, sculpting, collage…a specific theme or topic will be chosen and we use multiple materials to create a final project(s). For example, if the theme is a scuba diver, students may choose to use any type of paint to color their picture, but one may use tissue paper to create seaweed, while their friend creates seaweed out of yarn…and their flippers are from scrapbook paper and then bubbles are created with acrylic paint markers. Basically, one size will not fit all artists:-)
What is process art? Just like it says – it is more about the child experiencing and exploring the theme as they see it, using a variety of art tools to bring their creation to life. For example, yesterday we created insects and one of the children chose to make Cookie Monster and Elmo bugs and used Kwik Stix, liquid glue, and googly eyes to bring them to life (it was pretty darn cute:-)
