Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to bring people together to build homes, foster community, and instill hope, all while striving toward a vision in which everyone has a decent place to live. Upon completion of this course, students will have a thorough understanding of Habitat for Humanity of the Northwoods and its impact on surrounding communities. Students will explore:
- Habitat for Humanity’s structure as a local, national, and international organization
- The historical context of Habitat, both locally and nationally
- The principles of homeownership
- Current building projects in Rhinelander and Sayner – Home design considerations
- The Habitat ReStore, which serves as a home improvement retail outlet
- Opportunities for involvement with Habitat for Humanity
Co-instructor Dave Havel is the executive director at Habitat for Humanity of the Northwoods.
Co-instructor Ann Sorensen is the current construction manager for Habitat for Humanity of the Northwoods and has a long history with the organization, including serving as a board member and an AmeriCorps volunteer.
